--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About 10:00 last night while I was crashed on the couch I heard my two labs break into something fierce outside, my wife said their not acting right i think something's outside. As I head out to the porch in my sleep stupor I noticed that they were barking and jumping at the ground but I still couldn't see anything. Grabed my flashlight and started shinning around until I saw a cooperhead striking at my dogs from out of a little burrow that one of the dogs dug to cool off. Went and got the shotgun and drilled that joker with some 7 1/2 shot. Chucked the snake in the woods, and decided to check out the dogs. The lil yellow one, she was alright so I checked my choclate male and he had a good bit of blood on his nose. Wasn't real she what to do so I look it up and it seems that most dogs fair pretty good with cooperhead bits. Figured I'd give it till morning and see how he would do. By this afternoon other then his bubba gump snout he seems to be his usual crazy self. Thank the Lord! Ya'll have any experiences like that?

Wow I'm glad both dogs are alright!!

Never had any experience with dogs and snakes but I have with porcupines.

Our Lab got into 2 porcupines, one wasn't too bad. Just the front legs and shoulder got them stuck everywhere.
But the 2nd one was really bad.  I guess she remembered the first one, and what it did to her, so this time she found one she really wanted to get back at it, and she tried just that.  Her mouth was full of quills and down her throat, both front legs, face, and one going through her eyelid into her eye.   Well my Dad pulled out his leatherman and got to work.  I was about 10 at the time and was really shaken up.  Her eye was really hazy for a couple weeks, but then seemed to return to normal.  Now she is almost completely blind from cataracts, but we thing the one eye was slowly going blind from the porcupine.  She is 13 years old now.
