Hey just curious as to how big of a hole would you make on a frozen pond that holds around a couple hundred birds normally. We shot a few birds yesterday, but think we might of had to small of a landing zone. The whole marsh is about 10-20 acres but we have access to only about 2-3 acres of it. Also wondering how important is it to get all the ice out of the hole? Thanks for any help.

I hunt rice fields. I know it is a little different but this is what we do. Open a hole 60 to 70 yards and get all the ice out to the hole. the 60 to 70 yard will help when it start freezing up again. it will freeze on the outside in. getting the ice out of the hole will help keep it from freezing back up. put some motion in the water will help. mallard machine or a stake with a trolling motor run cables back to the boat.
