Rut 2009

About 5:30 last night I walked out of the house to take the trash out. And what to my wondering eyes should appear but a nice approximately 130" buck following some does. I had my cell phone with camera on me but didn't think to snap a pic until they were too far away.
This morning when I left for work, my truck had frost on it. Our first for the season. Thursday is opening day for muzzleloader. I'm gettin' ready.

The rut here in kansas doesnt get started till approximately nov.10 through maybe first of december. But oh boy you cannot beat the kansas rut for big bucks!! Just about everything I have seen so far have been does and the occasional 120 class buck. The big boys still arent moving yet. But wont be long now.

Yeah, the rut around here doesn't usually hit till around the end of October with the 31st usually being around the peak.
It was nice to see that it is starting a little.

I've seen small deer chasing does and talked to several people that have seen rut activity. Too bad I have to work for the earlier muzzleloader season here in Maryland. Might get out friday or saturday if the rain holds out. Sika deer are rutting well too Been hearing alot of bugling with reports of chasing too.

Hey,
I've never been sika hunting. Do you or can you use the same calls that you would for an elk or are they different. I'm thinking calls like the little hoochie or however it is spelled ect.?
