Well this past Saturday morning was the gun season opener here in Maryland. I found myself in a tree with 20 to 40 mile an hour wind gusts at about 5:30 in the AM.
I was positioned along the edge of the woods overlooking a bean field. Shortly after first light I saw 2 bodies on the other side of a hedgerow on the farm next door. They were about 200 yards away. Looking through the binoculars I could see antlers on the smaller of the two deer. The other deer had a giant body, but I could not see any antlers.
I watched them for awhile, then I looked away because I heard shots coming from the woods on the other side of the field about a mile or so away. I scanned the fields to see if I could see any deer coming out of the woods. Nothing.
I looked back to where the two deer where on the other side of the hedgerow. They were gone. I looked all up and down the hedgerow to no avail. I thought, they must be in the woods with me now. So I started scanning the woods. Nothing. I turned around and here comes a seven point up from the hedgerow. He got about 40 yards from me and stopped right at the Buck Bomb "Acorn Rage" and began licking the ground. That was the end of that and now my freezer is filled with venison. It's all out goose and duck for me for the rest of the season.
