Well I’ve had my new goose for 2 ˝ months now and NO Hunting for three months! So plenty of Practice mostly in the tractor in the vineyard 2-3 days a week that would be about two hours all up calling a day, yes driving and calling can be done.
I even had 20 geese flying around the tractor one day looking for some of there mates in a vineyard!
Now the Question is 2-3 mounths long enough to have broken in the guts of the call before I look at try shaving the reed,
I have two spare reeds to play around with so some tips and steps on how this could be done to help me experiment and learn.
Thanks Russll

Shaving is an art:
1.) take a marker and marking the reed on the top side over the whole surface is one way to tell what you have taken off when shaving.
2.) find a reed shaving jig makes this process much easier Google it ...

3.) When you shave you take off a little at a time and then try it to prevent over shaving
4.) The areas you shave on the reed is the outside of the shoulders and the tip of the tongue of the reed  the middle is the back boone of the reed to maintain it's pop and crispness if you shave that it will get mellow....
6.) make sure the reed can dip in the tone channel without clicking or hanging up
7.) make sure the belly of the reed faces down on the tone board of your guts and only shave the top side when shaving..

Hope this helps you....
