Today I decided to run to the gym work out then walk back, on the way back I began to reflect and hear God speak. Walking and looking at the spring greenery I noticed how all the leaves of the trailside vegitation where all faced toward the direction of the sun. Then I relfected on how the plants need the sun light to grow then the Lord spoke to me something so simple but yet profound. We belivers much like the plants to survive & live need to be first rooted and grounded in Christ. We then must spend time facing ourselves or positioning ourselves toward His marvelous light in order for true growth to take place. We could isolate ourselves from His light but it would be much like when grass is covered in darkness underneath something for a period of time. It turns pale and the growth is stunted or it dies.

Isaiah 2:5

O House of Jacobcome let us walk in the light of the Lord....

1 Thessalonians 5:4,5

But you, bretheren, are not in darkness, so that this day should overtake you as a theif.

5. You are all the sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor the darkness.

"Light signifies the creative powers of creator God either at work or employed to produce , perform, and grow".

Quote by Christian Author Paula A. Price, Ph.D.
Author of The Prophets dictionary

If we do not spend time in the light of God we will stunt our growth and wither.

It' has been said in health circles that 10-15  minutes a day in the sunlight produces vitamin D which combats depression and boosts your immune system.

See how things in the natural paralell with the spiritual...

As it is written in scripture :

Psalms 16:11
You show me the path of life ; In your presence is fullness of JOY ; At your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Hey Shane, This is a terrific word.  I personnaly needed to read it.

Sorry my horticultural background is jumpin in here but I'd like to add this for more thinking:

In dark situations a plant will stretch and grow towards the light. If and when we find times that we have allowed ourselves to fall into despair or to allow ourselves to move out of the light.  We must push ourselves and stretch out towards the light of God.  And, or, we may have allowed weeds to grow up around us and they are blocking out the light.  In this case, as painfull as it may be, these light robbing weeds must be removed.   And just as you weed a garden, the root must be removed as well in order for the weed to not return.  This is the only way that the plant and our spirits will receive the nourishment for our well being.  This means we need to cry out to God.  And We should also call on mature brothers and sisters in the Lord for both encouragement and accountability.
