From Sportsmans Devotionals 2010
Bible Study Verse Mark 8:25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. (NIV)
Thoughts One of the most important discoveries of my son's life was made on a camping trip in Ontario. Our family had been out hiking and canoeing, but wanted to take a break from the outdoors. We decided to go in to the nearest city, Sudbury. Always trying to combine fun and learning, we took the kids to their local science center. As we explored the vision area of the building we each took a turn at the vision chart, covering one eye at a time trying to see how far down the chart we could read. My five yr old son zipped through the letters with his left eye. When he read with his right eye, none of the letters he stated were correct, not even the one on the first line. My wife and I tried to not make it into a big deal for his sake, but I must confess that my heart was broken for him. He was blind in that eye!!!
I don't have room to tell the whole story here, but what I can tell you is that Caleb had a rare condition and the Lord restored his sight through an absolute miracle within a year of this event. Trust me, when I take my son out into the outdoors, I am eternally grateful for his restored vision. Many of the outdoor experiences that we do together obviously involve his ability to see clearly. When he shoots his bow, aims with his gun, hits a ball, or shoots a basketball, I am thankful that his vision has been restored. (Dave M)
Action Point My son was physically blind in one eye for several years. We aren't sure exactly how long. What I can tell you is that the day his vision was restored, we rejoiced in an unbelievable way. In a spiritual sense, each of us has to come to the realization that we are all blind without Christ in our lives. BUT, it doesn't have to be that way!!! I can tell you that before I accepted Christ as my savior, God brought several key situations and people into my life to step by step introduce me to Jesus.
If you aren't sure today if you should trust this "Jesus", let me ask you a couple of questions. Have you had situations brought into your life that have really stopped you in your tracks to think about faith or God? Are there people that have been brought into your life recently that are Christians? You respect them, but don't quite understand why they live the way they do. From my own experience, I can tell you that God is trying to speak to you personally. You may not understand it all, but that's okay. God is trying to bring you out of your blindness. The way you see this world is not the way God sees this world. There is hope for you - accept his Son. If these words strike your heart today, go to http://www.sportsmensdevotional.com/prayer.htm and pray the prayer that is listed there. You will begin to really see and live life the way God intended for you.
