My friend and I would like to get into contest calling, him goose me duck. We live in WI.  How does a guy get started doing this?  I have been to the state and seen the comps so I do know what level you need to be at to do it, but I don''t have anyguidelines or rules or anything like that.  what is the difference in the types of calling?  Any help or guidence sould be great, from anyone.

I am so glad you guys are getting involved!
Well a good place to start is to learn the composition of a competition duck or Goose calling routine.....

Duck:
1.) Hail series
2.) Greeting hens
3.) First feed work
4.) Step up
5.) Triple or comback series
6.) second greeting hens
7.) closing feed
8.) lonesome hen
9.) close out(hen)

Goose :

1.) Hail series
2.) Flock work or clucking
3.) Comeback calls
4.) Excited flock clucking coming off the comeback tapering off
5.) laydown work
6.) feed and mumurs
7.) close out

Both these are to emulate getting the birds attention at a great distance bringing them in greeting them losing them turning them back around greeting them back in the hole and finishing them.

Bare in mind you are displaying call control, blowing clean free of mistakes, volume and composition.

Comp calling is design to have the undertow of calling ducks and geese but is to display the above stated a full display of mastering your instrument....

Hope this helps to get things started!

Calling Ducks .com is a good place to sample sound files of comp routines to get an idea and I would also be glad to help...

Blessings
