Two weeks leading up to the Maryland Duck opener, I recieved 4 reports from my friend who had been watching a little creek that we have access to. Thursday, lunch time ... two days prior to the opener was the final report on the hole. It was looking like we might have a barrel burner.
Friday we recieved torrential down pours that caused a lot of flooding across the state.
Saturday morning, the creek was high and the current was strong. At first light we had two woodies dive bomb our 5 decoy set up. I dropped a hen while my buddy dropped the drake. Upon retrieval down the creek about 50 yards only the hen could be found. These were the only ducks we saw the opener. Blue bird skies, 30 mph wind gusts and water everywhere may have been a factor in not seeing any other ducks.
It was still a pleasure though.
Ain''''''''t she purty?
