what do most Duck hunters think of when the are asked where is a good place with lots of ducks, what comes to your mind. Arkansas. With the So. Illinois season being a bust we packed up and headed down. We have family with a rice/soybean farm southwest of Jonesboro. We headed down New Years Day after church. we got there at about 6 pm that night and woke up the next morning to 30 mile per hour winds. My dad got started with 2 dorkducks (aka Shovelers). Now you need to know my dad, he wanted to kill a pair of Arkansas shovelers, he likes them for the bill and if you get one at the right time of year, the colors are pretty cool. For the rest of the day, the ducks weren''''t wanting to work right and we didn''''t get anymore. The cool thing was that were had seen 1,500 or more pintails, most of the flocks being all drakes. We went out the next day to find 15,000 or more Snows in the same rice pattie as our pit, we jumped them up and started to break the half inch of ice in hte hole which was alomost imppossible to clear out. we left there with no ducks that day because we had to leave early, and my Brother''''s gun was not patterning right. We are planning to go back this year, and are mad how this trip panned out, but we hunt for the fellowship with friends and our spiritual brothers, ducks are just a bonus.
Good Luck to the rest of you guys.

I am headed down to Monticello, AR tomorrow for the weekend. Not expecting too much with the mild temps coming in again, however with a change of scenery and good comradery maybe we''ll get lucky and cut down a few birds as well!

The whole season has been a shot in the dark, we thought we would kill more, but that''s why they call it hunting and not killing.
Good luck to you
